Is a pool WORTH the investment?

Folks the simple answer is a resounding, YES!

Sure, I may be a bit biased, but I wasn’t always in this business…

I remember when I was growing up life revolved around deciding who’s house to go to. At the top of the list was always the friend with the best pool, this was often the one with the inground pool. I still remember when my parents got us our first pool. Of course I remember, it was one of the best days of my childhood! So to me, an inground pool was always something I Dreamed to one day have for my own family.

Fast forward a “few” years and I now I have a family of my own and really understand how important our time together is. Everyone I meet has different demands on their time, but one constant seems to remain steady across just about everyone I encounter; their time spent together as a family is precious. We are constantly being pulled to work and school and tugged to practice or birthday parties. Our lives sure do feel FULL! Full is a blessing but it does mean that when you get time to relax together as a family, its value is immeasurable.

Nothing brings our family together more than our pool.

After years of torturing my wife (Kerith) by showing her all of the projects we build and not having a “real” pool at home, I was finally blessed with the opportunity to put in our family’s inground pool. Having a pool at home completely changed our lives. And you don’t have to take my word for it, many of my clients have given me the same feedback and would gladly share. We don’t have to schedule time to swim, it just happens. We all get home from work and school and randomly find an extra hour here and there that used to be spent in front of the TV (or worse, on those doggone tablets) that is now spent together, technology free, relaxing and playing in the pool.

As a family we have put down the tablets and phones!

We are constantly finding ourselves playing games, learning new “tricks,” having swim races, and enjoying our favorite drinks lounging in the pool. We are soaking up Vitamin D and putting down the toxic electronics to do it. After all, they aren’t the most water friendly devices. Sure there are water proof devices and cases, but they aren’t too fun when wet and sure aren’t as fun as everything else going on in the pool.

The FAMILY TIME alone makes it “WORTH it!”

But what about the numbers, the financial return on investment???

I’ve always had a pretty straight forward answer to this question: “To the RIGHT buyer a WELL DESIGNED and installed pool project can drastically increase the appeal when you go to re-sell your home.” This answer is pretty well defined by a true story I now have the privilege of sharing.

In 2017 I built an inground pool for a great client that feels more like a friend (I am blessed to say I am in the business of building relationships that last.) For privacy I will call him “Will.” Will and his wife hired us to design and build their pool project and were fortunate enough to have an opportunity to purchase a new home only a couple years later. I was more than surprised to hear from “Will” when he was house shopping and worked together with “Will”, his wife, and their realtor to make sure their new yard could accommodate the size of inground pool they wanted us to build there.

After finding the right builder and lot for their new home, “Will” listed his home for sale. After a couple of months of getting little interest “Will” decided to change the online real estate listing to showcase his pool as the first image people would see. Within a couple of days the house was under agreement!

This story is great evidence that although the value of time spent is worth every penny, there can also be financial gain when a project is designed and executed properly.
